BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - The lawyer for a Vermont man charged with killing a man whose body was found beneath a railroad bridge says his client is going to plead guilty to a charge of second-degree murder.

Twenty-eight-year-old Daniel Whalon is expected to enter the plea Friday in Vermont Superior Court in Burlington.

Defense Robert Katims tells the Burlington Free Press (https://bfpne.ws/1lPWTFd ) a plea agreement was filed Thursday afternoon and that Whalon had decided to “acknowledge what occurred” and “take responsibility for it.”

Whalon had pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the July 2011 knifing and killing of neighbor 54-year-old Ralph Bell.

Bell’s body was found beneath a bridge that spans the Winooski River between Winooski and Burlington.

Sentencing is scheduled for June.
