EDINBURG, Texas (AP) - A Rio Grande Valley police officer is being treated for multiple gunshot wounds and one or two men are being sought in what authorities are saying was a domestic disturbance that turned violent in Edinburg.

The Monitor, the McAllen-based newspaper, reports (https://bit.ly/1iB8zYd ) the unidentified Edinburg officer is hospitalized for wounds to his legs.

Police spokesman Lt. Oscar Trevino says the shooting erupted late Thursday night when the officer responded to a call. He subsequently radioed to dispatchers that he’d been shot.



Trevino says one or two men fled the scene on foot.

A neighbor tells the newspaper he heard more than a dozen gunshots.
