CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - Officials say two people have been killed in a plane crash near Riverside in eastern Kanawha County.

The Charleston Gazette (https://bit.ly/1kE9xty) reports that the small plane was on its way from Akron, Ohio, to Spartanburg, S.C., when it crashed about 5 p.m. Friday.

The pilot of the Piper PA-32 had reportedly asked for help navigating around bad weather.

The newspaper said that West Virginia State Police responding to the crash needed about two hours to find the site with a helicopter. Police expected the plane’s recovery to take most of Friday night.

A man who answered the telephone at the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the plane’s two occupants were dead but did not immediately have any additional information.
