POULSBO, Wash. (AP) - The Kitsap County fire marshal says a fire that killed a 90-year-old man was caused when he ignited his clothes while operating the kitchen stove.
Harold Champeness died Thursday in his Poulsbo, Wash., home.
Fire Marshal David Lynam said Friday that fire alarms installed in the home were working, but that there were no sprinkler systems.
The fire caused about $10,000 in damages, mostly to the kitchen area.
Two 19-year-old neighbors used a garden hose to try to suppress the fire until firefighters arrived.
