ERIE, Pa. (AP) - Mercyhurst University is naming its intelligence studies program after Tom Ridge, the former Pennsylvania governor and U.S. homeland security secretary.

The Erie institution said Friday the program aims to prepare students to work in national security, law enforcement and business.

It’s adding math, computer science and communications and will be known as the Tom Ridge School of Intelligence Studies and Information Science.

Ridge’s archives are housed at Mercyhurst.

He was governor from 1995 to 2001, and headed up homeland security for President George W. Bush from 2001 to 2005. Ridge also spent 10 years in Congress.
