Man dies after fall from scaffold on Nantucket

NANTUCKET, Mass. (AP) - Police say a 72-year-old man has died after falling from scaffold at a Nantucket work site.

Lt. Jerry Adams tells the Cape Cod Times that Henry Varian was working as a private contractor on a job when he fell from the scaffolding and landed on his back just before 8 a.m. Thursday.

The Nantucket Fire Department responded and took him Nantucket Cottage Hospital.

Adams says Varian was then flown to a Boston hospital where he died later in the day.

The death remains under investigation.
