BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - The U.S. Coast Guard has canceled plans to break ice in Saginaw Bay this weekend.

The 140-foot cutter Neah Bay had planned to begin work Saturday from Gravelly Shoal to the entrance of the Saginaw River. But the Coast Guard suddenly called it off Friday.

The same work was scheduled for last weekend by another Coast Guard cutter but was postponed due to ice-breaking in another area.

The Coast Guard advises anyone who’s near Great Lakes ice to have a life jacket, a marine radio and ice picks to get out of the water if ice breaks.
