GUTHRIE CENTER, Iowa (AP) - Authorities have ruled the death of a prominent Des Moines developer found in a burned vehicle as a suicide.
The Iowa Office of the State Medical Examiner released the results of Bobby Joe Knapp’s autopsy Friday. It determined that Knapp had multiple cuts on the upper and lower extremities of his body. They were complicated by smoke and soot inhalation.
Authorities found Knapp’s body on March 30 in a scorched vehicle in rural western Iowa. Days earlier, the 64-year-old had left a federal prison in Minnesota after serving time following his 2011 conviction for environmental violations.
An estimated time of death for Knapp was not released. A message left for the medical examiner’s office was not immediately returned.
