KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a kayaker whose body was found in the Albemarle Sound.
Dare County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Steve Hoggard says the body of Jonathan Rodwell Day of Colington was found at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday.
The U.S. Coast Guard was alerted on Wednesday night that a kayaker was missing, and rescue crews responded with a boat and helicopter search.
Crews found a yellow, 19-foot kayak and fishing gear but had to call off their search for the night.
Authorities think Day fell out of his kayak near Kill Devil Hills.
