ALUM CREEK, W.Va. (AP) - A temporary access road is being built in Alum Creek where high water caused a roadway to slip four months ago.

The West Virginia Division of Highways closed County Route 8 on Dec. 6 because of safety concerns. The road remains a concern, and highway engineers fear it could fall over the hillside.

Known as Little Coal River Road, the section of Route 8 is off of W.Va. 214.

As a result of the road’s instability, the department has begun work on a temporary road to provide access to residents who have had to detour around the slip for months. Work should be done in two weeks.

The future of the damaged road is not known.
