FITCHBURG, Mass. (AP) - Fire officials say improper disposal of smoking materials led to a house fire that that killed two people last month in Fitchburg.
State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan and Fitchburg’s fire and police chiefs announced the results of their investigation Thursday. They said the house had no working smoke alarms or carbon monoxide detectors, which delayed reporting of the nighttime fire.
The March 30 fire killed 39-year-old Lisa Englehart and 22-year-old Christopher Brinkley, and injured 63-year-old Frank Huckins Sr.
Six other people escaped without being injured.
