ROXANA, Ill. (AP) - A Roxana student’s bogus report of gunshots at his southwestern Illinois school forced a lockdown and police sweep of the building.
Police and school officials say no shots were fired as falsely reported Tuesday afternoon at the building housing the Roxana junior and senior high schools.
Officials of Roxana Community Unit School District says the student who made the report has been located, but not before streets surrounding the school had to be blocked off and the building swept by police.
Dozens of police officers from several area agencies responded.
Students later were allowed to return to their classes.
Roxana is just northeast of St. Louis.
