Thief returns 255-pound pumpkin to 9-year-old contest winner

A thief has returned — along with a letter of apology — a 255-pound pumpkin that a 9-year-old Pennsylvania boy won by correctly guessing its weight.

Jaiden Newcomer won the pumpkin at an Oktoberfest celebration in Windsor Township, and he displayed his prize proudly on his family’s porch.

But the pumpkin was stolen last week, only to be returned to the family’s porch Sunday night, The York Dispatch reported.

“I’m really sorry about taking your pumpkin, it was wrong of me, you earned the pumpkin, I didn’t think my actions through nor realize who they were affecting. Sincerest apologies,” the note read, according to the report.

Jaiden’s mother, Amy, said her son is “very excited. He’s beside himself.”
