A man wielding scissors went on a rampage in a popular Manhattan park Tuesday morning, slashing a 2-year-old boy, his father and three other people in a series of random attacks in less than 10 minutes, a local NBC affiliate reported.

A woman, 36, was stabbed in the chest and is in critical condition, law enforcement officials said.

Another woman, 32, was injured in the neck, a 36-year-old man was stabbed in the stomach and the 35-year-old father of the boy was slashed on the chest, NBC 4 reported. The toddler also had a slash wound.

Police have a 43-year-old Texas man in custody who is reportedly homeless and suffers from psychological problems, the report said.

A bystander held down the suspect until police arrived, the report said.

According to police, the suspect began the assault at about 7:55 a.m. in Riverside Park South at 64th Street and continued slashing and stabbing people for three blocks.
