The Department of Health and Human Services is replacing Verizon Communications’ Terremark subsidiary with Hewlett-Packard to as its web-hosting provider for HealthCare.gov.
A spokesman for the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services division told CNBC that the change in providers was set well before the website’s failed launched in October.
“As we think about the overall performance and functionality of the site, redundancy is a critical part of our planning and we are working to ensure it in all aspects of the system,” the spokesman told CNBC.
An HHS official said the agency overseeing the marketplace “has begun the necessary activities to transition the data center over to H-P. We are working to ensure a smooth transition between the two contractors,” the Wall Street Journal reported.
