A CSX freight train crashed into a tractor trailer and derailed in the Baltimore area Tuesday afternoon, leading to an explosion that witnesses say could be heard blocks away.

The explosion prompted hazardous-materials crews to investigate the area. Authorities evacuated a half-mile proximity, but there is not currently a community evacuation, a Baltimore County police spokeswoman said.

The driver of the tractor-trailer was seriously injured and is being treated at a nearby hospital, CNN reports.

Several buildings also collapsed at the site of the derailment in Rosedale, according to WBAL and The Associated Press.
