The police department in Antioch, Calif., is enlisting the help of mail carriers and trash collectors to help spot crime on city streets, CBS San Francisco reported Monday.
Employees of Republic Services Inc., the local trash collector, and the U.S. Postal Service have been given tips on how to act as effective witnesses to crimes in a program, dubbed “We’re Looking Out For You,” CBS reported.
Lt. Tammany Brooks said the understaffed police department isn’t encouraging civilians to fight crime, but simply to keep an eye out for suspicious activity, CBS reported.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, as few as five patrols can be on duty in Antioch during a given shift.
