An Alabama couple were shocked when they received a note from their Home Owners Association demanding they remove an American flag from outside their condo.

A soldier and his wife who live at Stepping Stone Condominiums in Huntsville said they received a note from the complex on Monday evening to remove the flag, WHNT reports.

“Your flag attached to stairs has to be removed ASAP!” the note reads.

The note sparked a Facebook frenzy and the Stepping Stone Condominiums property manager’s office has been flooded with calls and emails, some even threatening in nature. Some people even went to the condo to hold American flags outside in protest.

The property manager said the complex will discuss revising the rule to allow American flags outside, WHNT reports.
