In arguing for government snooping programs, President Obama slipped into a strained metaphor about whether his wife would trust whether he’d done the dishes.
Then Mr. Obama quipped that those days are behind him.
“Now granted, in the White House, I don’t do the dishes that much,” Mr. Obama said at a Friday afternoon press conference at the White House.
His remarks set off an immediate negative reaction on social media, with a number of critics bristling that he compared checking on whether he’s doing the dishes to checking on whether the government was abusing its snooping programs.
