Authorities say a man armed with some type of automatic weapon has taken at least three people hostage at a bank in northeastern Louisiana, just southeast of Monroe.

It happened Tuesday afternoon at the Tensas State Bank in St. Joseph, La., the Associated Press reported.

Superintendent Mike Edmonson said that a state police negotiator was on the scene and the FBI is en route.

Mr. Edmonson said the hostages are believed to be bank employees. It’s unclear whether any customers were in the bank.
