Jason Dufner’s stony expression on the 18th green Saturday perfectly summed up an internet meme that’s gone viral in his honor — “Dufnering.”
Dufnering is in reference to a photo taken of the golfer back in March where he’s seen visiting a school in Texas. The children look happy and engaged, while Mr. Dufner is slumped against a wall with his arms by his sides and a blank stare.
“Just caught me at a perfect time,” Mr. Dufner told the Huffington Post on Friday. “The funny thing about it is the photo taken represents how I act all the time. It was a sheer moment of ’Jason Dufner’ by whoever captured the moment for the 30 seconds I checked out.”
“They were talking about focusing and relaxation,” he said. “They have some big test coming up for the class on ways to relax and concentrate. And I guess I took it to another level.”
Rory McIlroy was the first player to tweet out a picture of himself #Dufnering, with Keegan Bradley, Rickie Fowler, Luke Donald and Bubba Watson following suit, The New York Post reported.
