Recently, I wrote an Op-Ed for The Washington Times (“Schools’ expectations should be colorblind,” Sept. 25). In the piece, I incorrectly cited the expectations of the District of Columbia’s school accountability plan. D.C.’s accountability system measures individual student proficiency and growth with the same expectations of proficiency for minority and non-minority students alike.

All students, regardless of the color of their skin or their parents’ salary level, can and must achieve proficiency. Schools must be held accountable for having a plan and a sense of urgency to help every child gain the knowledge and skills they will need to achieve their God-given potential.
