Metropolitan police said Saturday afternoon that the District’s 911 system was restored after announcing earlier in the day that the call function was “temporarily inoperable.”
Police said in a press release issued shortly before 3 p.m. that back-up communications protocols were in use and that calls for service would be answered.
Officials announced about an hour later on Twitter that the system had been restored.
Officer Hugh Carew, a police spokesman, said during the outage that he had no information on when it began or what had caused it.
