The director of the Reston Zoo was arrested Friday, following a months-long investigation that stemmed from the death of an adult wallaby.

According to police, 26-year-old Meghan Mogensen of Silver Spring was charged with animal cruelty and possession of a controlled substance.

An investigation was launched in late January, police stated, “related to allegations of improper treatment of injured animals and improper use of euthanasia drugs.”



Officers were tipped off about Ms. Mogensen’s suspicious behavior when they received a complaint about the death of the sick marsupial.The investigation is ongoing.
