STATE COLLEGE, PA. (AP) - Mourners are walking single-file past Joe Paterno’s closed brown casket set at the front of a Penn State campus worship hall where family members attended church services.

Large windows bathed the white-walled hall in daylight on an overcast Tuesday as thousands slowly walked past, some pausing. Some of the mourners lined up for more than two hours.

A spray of white roses sat atop the undraped casket, flanked by an honor guard of two players _ one past and one present. A stylized, black-and-white photo of the smiling football coach perched on an easel 6 feet away.

Paterno died Sunday, just more than two months after he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

The public viewing session continues Wednesday and concludes with a public memorial on Thursday.
