A woman was killed when a car hit her Tuesday night in a residential parking lot in Herndon and drove away.

Herndon police officers found the woman at the 600 block of Center Street, Lt. Ron Thunman said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A black Toyota Camry found nearby was taken into evidence. Police said that the Camry is owned by the woman’s husband, Fitsum Abrha Gebretatios. Police are looking for Mr. Gebretatios, 32, described as five feet ten inches tall, 170 pounds and with black hair and eyes.

Just down the street, the Camry struck a car that was parallel parked on the side of the road. That car smashed into three other cars. The driver then abandoned the Camry.

The victim has been identified, but police have not notified her family.

Authorities found three children at the woman’s home. The children have been turned over to Child Protective Services, according to Lt. Thunman.

Police continue to investigate the situation.
