OPINION:
It amazes me that we have politicians like Texas Gov. Rick Perry and President Obama who don’t see what they are doing when they want illegals to get financial breaks (“Perry’s support of tuition for children of illegals puts him in GOP cross hairs,” Web, Friday).
The illegal immigrants in question are children of parents who crossed our borders illegally. The parents and children are still here illegally; it doesn’t matter whether they are going to school. If they want to continue to go to school, then they need to go back to the country they came from. If they really want to come to the United States, it is our job to make sure that they have legal documentation. When Americans go to another country, they need passports. This is all we are asking of immigrants who want to come to the United States for a better life. The immigrants - or “undocumented immigrants,” as the government is calling them - need legal documentation to enter America, to learn English, respect our laws and become citizens through the pathway to citizenship we already have established in America.
We do not need the government to automatically give illegals benefits that only go to legal citizens or immigrants who have followed our laws. What the government needs to do is secure our borders and drop the lawsuits against states like Arizona that only want to enforce our immigration laws.
