NEW YORK (AP) - Notre Dame is the favorite to win the Big East women’s basketball regular season title, marking the first time since 2005 that Connecticut wasn’t the preseason pick.
The Irish, who lost in the NCAA championship game last season to Texas A&M, are led by preseason player of the year Skylar Diggins and received nine first-place votes.
Connecticut was second with seven votes. The Huskies are followed by Louisville, Rutgers, Georgetown, DePaul, St. John’s, Syracuse, West Virginia, South Florida, Marquette, Pittsburgh, Villanova, Providence, Cincinnati, and Seton Hall.
Huskies freshman Kaleena Mosqueda-Lewis has been selected preseason rookie of the year.
