Montgomery County police said Wednesday morning they have a suspect in custody in connection with three recent carjackings of elderly men outside a Wheaton shopping mall. The men were kidnapped, then forced to withdrawal money from ATMs.
The suspect has been identified as Henry Levi Sanders, 50, of the 3500 block of Brightseat Road in Landover.
On Sunday, a 77-year-old man was accosted by a man with a box cutter outside the Westfield Wheaton shopping center and was ordered into his car and driven to bank machines. Police say the victim was cut and beaten during the kidnapping. After the assailant fled, passersby noticed the victim in the passenger seat of his car in Hyattsville and called police.
On Saturday, a 60-year-old man was accosted at the shopping center. On Wednesday, a 75-year-old man was the victim in a similar incident.
Police earlier this week releases a surveillance video of a suspect and said they had possible DNA evidence from the incident Sunday.
