OPINION:
William Cook asserts that our society tolerates “the expungement of God and prayer from every sphere of public life” (Letters, Monday). Not so. The Supreme Court ruled only against government-mandated or government-sponsored prayer in public schools. All students and adults remain quite free to pray whenever and wherever they please. Our schools do not teach that “the state is God.”
True, we, the people may elect liars and fools to public office, but the remedy lies in having citizens care enough to keep informed and get out and vote.
