The D.C. Council on Tuesday unanimously approved Mayor Vincent C. Gray’s nominee for attorney general.

Irvin B. Nathan, who was chosen by Mr. Gray in December and served in an acting capacity, will take the job on a permanent basis.

Mr. Nathan served as general counsel to the U.S. House before taking the city job and was a senior partner who ran the white-collar-crime department at Arnold & Porter from 1994 to 2007. He also worked in the Justice Department.
