How did you get started in real estate? I was always interested in real estate and spent hours searching local listings on the Internet and visiting open houses. I jumped in with both feet after purchasing my first condo and haven’t looked back. I truly love selling houses and finding the perfect home for my clients.
How long with the current company? I have been with Coldwell Banker since 2002.
Licenses and designations: Accredited buyer representative; graduate, Realtor Institute; seniors real estate specialist
Associations: Northern Virginia Association of Realtors
Awards: NVAR top producer, Million Dollar Producer
Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: In my personal life, I had my first baby on May 31, 2010. Ava is my greatest joy! In my professional life, I was able to help two close friends find their dream homes in 2010. Both couples wanted to leave urban condo living in the heart of Arlington. They are now growing their families in the suburban communities of Chesterbrook in McLean and Country Club Hills in Arlington. It’s wonderful to be able to work with friends and family and share such an important step in their lives.
Area of specialty? I sell real estate throughout Northern Virginia, specializing in Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun counties.
Highest-priced home sold: $999,000
Most memorable house: It’s not necessarily the most memorable home, but the most gratifying experience. I had an elderly client with Parkinson’s and the onset of dementia. When he retired he was unable to make his mortgage payments with his Social Security income and he accrued huge credit card debts. His bank convinced him to take out a third mortgage to pay his other late mortgage payments. After months of negotiations, my client short-sold his home and was 100 percent relieved of all three upside down mortgages. He is happily living in a senior living facility unencumbered of $300,000 in mortgage debt.
The best experience I had in real estate was helping a first-time buyer win out over 36 other offers, not by being the highest offer, but by removing unnecessary contingencies.
Worst experience buying or selling a house: My worst experience was a short sale where I represented a young, just-married couple in the purchase of their first home. Unfortunately, as is the risk with short sales, we waited for the bank’s response for six months and when we finally got the verdict, the seller refused to sign the note they were requiring him to sign. Without giving my clients the option to contribute, the seller walked. The house went into the foreclosure process and my clients were forced to start all over again. Luckily, we found a new home that they loved even more; it just took a little longer than we hoped.
