I am appalled that the Battle of Manassas re-enactment, a major event in our heritage, has been bought, sold and run as if it were a rock concert. (“Cannons booms at Bull Run in Civil War re-enactment,” Web, Sunday)

While re-enactors received no funds from this event - in fact, they pay for their own equipment, transportation, lodging, etc. - it’s an outrage that tickets for seating cost $200 for a family of four. The unwashed among us (including me) paid $30 per person, and from the location to which we were banished, one could not see the first hour of battle.

When did we start selling our history to the highest bidder? What about the thousands who wanted to attend, but couldn’t afford to pay more than $100 to “stand”?

These events should be a chance to relive our history, a chance to understand, reflect and teach - not an occasion to put money in the pockets of landlords and event planners. What a disgrace.
