RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Attendance at Virginia’s state parks has topped 8 million visitors for the first time.
Park attendance in 2010 increased by 7 percent to a record 8.1 million visitors.
More than 1 million people stayed overnight in cabins and campsites. It’s the first time overnight attendance has topped 1 million visitors
The Richmond Times-Dispatch reports that state officials released the attendance figures Wednesday.
Gov. Bob McDonnell says in a statement that Virginia’s state parks continue to be a premier tourism destination.
There are 35 parks in the state system.
