WASHINGTON (AP) — A 4-year-old boy has died in a southeast Washington apartment fire, and five other people were injured. The child died Friday night after being rescued from the burning building. Two other children also were injured, along with two adults. A firefighter was seriously burned. D.C. fire department Battalion Chief Terry Reynolds says a family was trapped inside the burning apartment by bars on the windows. Firefighters cut the bars off to rescue them. About a dozen people were displaced by the fire damage. Firefighters are returning to the neighborhood Saturday to make sure residents have working smoke detectors.
