How did you get started in real estate? While living in Bath, Maine, in the early 1970s, I was co-chairman of the real estate committee of a preservation society and served as a resource to homeowners. I was fascinated by the history and architecture of the homes in that area. I also gained experience in renovating homes, which further sparked an interest in real estate. When I moved to the D.C. area in the late 1970s, I began investing in real estate. I was fascinated by the whole process of searching for, evaluating and then owning properties. I became a licensed Realtor in 1980, and this has been my full-time profession ever since.

How long have you been with the current company? I joined McEnearney Associates in 1995 when the Arlington office opened.

Worst experience buying or selling a house: Years ago, I had a transaction for which I represented the buyers, and they went to settlement about a month late because of tenants who had to be evicted. It was stressful and frustrating, and I learned more about tenancy than I ever expected. After 30 years in this business, I have learned that no two transactions are alike. The key word is experience, and there’s always something new to be learned. With so many changes in the market in the past five years, I was grateful to have had the prior 25 years under my belt whenever the unexpected arose.
