Regarding the recent discussions about placing the Ten Commandments in schools and government buildings, I’ve always felt it would make much more sense to display the Bill of Rights and/or the Golden Rule in schools and other public places instead (“No room for the Ten Commandments,” Comment & Analysis, Wednesday).

Half the Ten Commandments are religious commands and the other half are obvious general prohibitions. The Bill of Rights would be informative regarding many issues still being argued today, and they, alongside the Golden Rule, could be the subject of many meaningful school discussions.
