With his withdrawal from the GOP race, Herman Cain will soon fade into obscurity (“Cain’s exit puts spotlight, target on Gingrich,” Page 1, Monday). His few months of fame as a GOP candidate are over and the country is the better for it.

Mr. Cain was not fit to be president of the United States - not because of the five women who accused him of less-than-decent behavior in and out of the workplace. It was his lack of simple, everyday knowledge about government and foreign affairs. It appeared that he does not read newspapers or much of anything else.

He probably can sell almost anything except himself. He was attempting to impress the media and failed; he attempted to be a politician and failed; he presented himself as a man of morals and failed. He failed at most everything that could have made him a viable presidential candidate.

Herman Cain was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Now he can concentrate on becoming a devoted family man and hopefully, the women who came after him will also fade into obscurity.
