SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) — The release of Nike’s prized basketball shoe has sparked violence in several malls across Georgia.
The Savannah Morning News reported (https://bit.ly/rQPstn) a crowd waiting to get in to Oglethorpe Mall to buy Air Jordans was pepper-sprayed by mall security. Authorities also said two men were robbed of their new Air Jordans at Savannah Mall.
Police say at least four people at a mall in Lithonia were also arrested after customers broke down a door at a store selling the shoes. DeKalb County police said up to 20 squad cars responded.
The fights were sparked when shoppers converged on stores Friday in pursuit of the $180 shoes, a retro model of one of the most popular Air Jordans ever made.
