Prince George’s County police fatally shot a man Wednesday who earlier in the day reported that he wanted to commit suicide, authorities said.
County police surrounded a home in the 6700 block of Valley Park Road, in the Seat Pleasant area, at about noon after a man at the house phoned police to say he wanted to kill himself, said county police spokesman Cpl. Larry Johnson said.
When the man emerged from the house with a rifle in hand and “approached police in a threatening manner” officers fired their weapons, striking and killing the man, Cpl. Johnson said.
Police have not identified the man killed but said he was alone inside the home.
