OPINION:
In his speech Wednesday at George Washington University, President Obama promised Americans that he would reduce the deficit by $4 trillion over the next 12 years. But does anyone really believe this is possible when just a few days ago, the president could scarcely handle cutting a mere $60 billion from the 2011 budget?
Americans have had three years of platitudes and promises but no results. We see the cost of living increasing rapidly across the United States, states running wide deficits and in danger of requiring multiple federal bailouts, and yet, in Washington, all we get is more talk and more spending.
The Soviet Union collapsed while its leaders were claiming optimistic fiscal forecasts to its people. Let’s not repeat history here in America. We need to cut spending, cut taxes and quit lying to the American people.
