OPINION:
With the passage last week of an emergency, short-term spending bill, Republicans have shown the pro-life camp that social issues just aren’t that important to them.
I expected the Republicans to abandon their effort to defund Planned Parenthood because in the end, both they and the Democrats agree that the economy trumps all else - even life.
We have heard many times how the current House is the most pro-life in history, but look where that got us. We finally had a chance to defund a baby-killing giant with questionable financial practices (“Planned Parenthood’s millions still missing,” Commentary, April 6) and the GOP showed its true colors by bowing to Democrats once again.
Everyone knows the Senate will not vote to defund Planned Parenthood, and even if it does so, do we really expect President Obama to abandon the abortion industry like the GOP has abandoned pro-lifers? I certainly don’t. The Democrats are much more loyal to liberals than the GOP is to social conservatives.
I guess we will just have to address this issue another day. We should keep in mind, however, that every day we wait, 3,300 more unborn babies are killed. That is the price for caving to Democratic pressure.
