THE OFFERING: Apple Inc.’s new music-discovery feature, Ping, which lets you see what songs your friends are buying and recommend some of your favorites to them.

THE REQUIREMENTS: The feature is free, as is the software running it, iTunes 10. It works fine on Windows XP, but Mac users need to have at least the Mac OS X 10.5 operating system, or Leopard, which came out in 2007.

REVIEW’S FINDINGS: It’s a good start, but it could use longer music previews and more members, as well as built-in ticketing transactions for concerts.
