In his Oct. 8 letter to the editor (“Puerto Rican rum row is un-American,” Letters to the Editor), Paul Arnold willfully fails to answer why is it un-American to ask for more congressional and public debate into a $6 billion transfer of federal funds to a foreign liquor conglomerate operating in the U.S. Virgin Islands when only 40 new jobs will be created.

Perhaps Mr. Arnold could explain, in serious economic terms, why this outrageous corporate welfare scheme is good for the American economy or its taxpayers, especially when the nation is already facing seemingly intractable unemployment.
