How did you get started in real estate? I was doing some real estate investments and decided to get my real estate license to help me with my own transaction. Shortly after getting my license, the consulting company I worked for was purchased by a foreign company and my position was eliminated. Rather than look for a new position, I decided there was a need for Realtors who had a better understanding of processes, customer service and marketing.
How long have you been with the current company? Six years
Licenses and designations: Real estate sales license in Virginia and the District
Associations: National Association of Realtors, Virginia Association of Realtors, Northern Virginia Association of Realtors, Real Estate Action Counsel
Awards: 2005 third-place Rookie of the Year, Weichert Capital Region; 2007 office top producer; currently second-most-recommended real estate sales agent in the D.C. metro area on LinkedIn
Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: Getting married to my partner of 10 years
Area of specialty: Helping people avoid foreclosure through the short-sale process
Highest-priced home: I represented the buyer in a transaction that closed at $951,185
Most memorable house: I purchased my first investment property in 1996. It was a turn-of-century Victorian that hadn’t had very much work done in the previous 25 years. I restored the parquet floors, replaced 58 windows, replaced the roof, had asbestos removed from the property, landscaped the lot and turned it from a six-bedroom, two-bath home into a six-bedroom, 3 1/2-bath home by reworking the floor plan. It gave me a great understanding of real estate, home construction and contractors.
Worst experience buying or selling a house: I felt terrible for my clients at one property, who had polybutylene plumbing in their home. They decided to sell their home, but after a few weeks on the market, the plumbing leaked inside the walls, and the entire home had to be redone. It was more than a year before their home was ready to go back on the market.
Age: 45
Family: Married with two sons, ages 8 and 4
Pets: None currently, but looking for the right dog
Education: Bachelor’s degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, 1989
Outside interests: Involved with various military-member support organizations, such as the Service Members Legal Defense Network and the Military Equality Alliance
Last book read: “The Tipping Point” by Malcolm Gladwell
Last movie seen: “Shrek Forever After”
What kind of car do you drive? 2006 Dodge Caravan
Describe your personal dream house: We love our current home in Sterling, Va. Of course, there is always room for improvement. A larger kitchen, another bathroom on the top floor, and a yard flat enough and large enough for a pool would be improvements that would be welcomed by our family.
