OPINION:
The Washington Timeseditorial board suggests that Christian groups are combating the spread of Islamofascism by converting U.S. prisoners to Christianity (“The prison jihad,” Comment & Analysis, Tuesday). Groups like al Qaeda are recruiting inside American prisons, so the board reasons: “If the choice is between prisons creating crusaders forChristor Islamic jihadists, we say bring on the crusade.”
Bring on the crusade, indeed. In fact, why stop at prison conversions? Why not launch a full-scale campaign of forcible conversions across the Middle East? It worked in the 11thcentury, didn’t it?
Religious conversion is not a tool of war. Let’s not make the mistake of using it as such.
