WASHINGTON | Restricted free agent forward Boyd Gordon has signed a one-year, $800,000 contract with the Washington Capitals. The deal was announced Tuesday. The 26-year-old Gordon, who did not file for salary arbitration by Monday’s 5 p.m. deadline, had four goals and six assists in 36 games last season. He missed time with back injuries, but won 61 percent of his faceoffs, which would have led the NHL had he played enough games to qualify. A fourth-line specialist who plays both center and right wing, Gordon has 24 goals and 52 assists in 303 career games during six seasons with Washington. He was the Capitals’ first-round selection, 17th overall, in the 2002 draft.
