RESTON, Va. (AP) — Fairfax County officials say at least eight homemade chemical bombs have shown up in Northern Virginia mailboxes and front yards since May.
Authorities say nobody has been injured by the bombs, which are made of easily purchased chemicals like Drano and baking soda and have been placed in residential areas of Reston and West Springfield.
Some of the explosives contain shredded aluminum.
Many area residents believe local teens are responsible. Fairfax County police and fire officials say they are looking into the incidents and warn that the bombs could damage mailboxes and cause serious harm to people.
