How did you get started in real estate? After Sept. 11, I decided life was too short to spend so much time in an office. I wanted to do something entrepreneurial and have a more direct impact with people. Real estate afforded me the opportunity to make a change - I used some equity from my home, quit my job at a large public relations firm and got my real estate license. What I thought might be a transition job to something else has turned into a great career and business.

How long have you been with the current company? Eight years

Licenses and designations: Associate broker, licensed in the District; graduate, Realtor Institute

Associations: Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors, Washington, D.C., Association of Realtors

Awards: Top 150 Agents, Long & Foster 2009 (in the District, Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania)

Greatest accomplishment in the past 12 months: Overcoming my hesitation and taking the risk to hire and invest in the business during the downturn when others were laying off and cutting back.

Area of specialty: I specialize in city living and the walkable neighborhoods in the District. I love the benefits of urban living. Having parks, restaurants and entertainment at your doorstep means people spend less time at home and more time enjoying the community. The neighborhood is an extension of their homes, and it’s a thrill to be part of the evolution of the city.

Highest-priced home sold: $1,550,000

Most memorable house: I marketed and sold a unique multiunit home on three wooded lots in Mount Pleasant. It was in the heart of the city but felt like the most private retreat.

Worst experience buying or selling a house: The most frustrating have involved title issues that have drawn out the process for months. My most embarrassing, however, was the first year I was in the business. I was doing the final walk-through of a home, and my client and I put a few things on the kitchen counter - his car keys and the house keys from the lockbox. We walked into the garage to check a cabinet, and the door shut behind us, locking us out 30 minutes before settlement. The sellers already had relocated out of state and had left all the remaining house keys in the house for us. Fortunately, the locksmith was quick and understanding. I haven’t set the keys down since.

What kind of car do you drive? Volvo XC60

Describe your personal dream house: A downtown condo with an abundance of natural light. It would have a private outdoor terrace off the main living rooms and a fireplace for those cool winter nights.
