LUDINGTON, Mich. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard says all agencies have stopped searching for four people missing in Lake Michigan after a plane crash during a medical flight.
Petty Officer Brandon Blackwell of the Coast Guard’s district headquarters in Cleveland tells The Associated Press the search was halted at 1:45 p.m.
He says it’s unlikely anyone is still alive some 27 hours after the plane went down.
The pilot, 66-year-old Jerry Freed of Alma, was rescued shortly after the crash. Still missing are co-pilot Earl Davidson, Alma schools’ superintendent Don Pavlik, his wife Irene, and Dr. James Hall.
